AVS VAT has been working with accountants and businesses for over 20 years. Set up by Melanie Lord as an independent consultancy, our objective has always been clear: to provide our clients with a proactive, professional and cost-effective service to prevent or solve VAT issues.
We take time to understand our clients’ business requirements and add value to every organisation and individual we work with.
Our client base has grown through our continued commitment to transparency, honesty and excellent customer service. This is demonstrated by our client recommendations which have been a key factor in our growth and success. Our team works hard to develop relationships with our clients and we strive to find the best possible and most appropriate VAT outcome.
We are always learning to ensure we maintain our position as experts in VAT. This is vital as legislation continually evolves, as do the obligations and regulations imposed on organisations both in the UK and internationally.
AVS VAT supports many businesses, trust administrators, solicitors and accountants based both in the UK and abroad.
Our clients include blue chip multinational businesses, commercial property developers and smaller quoted and unquoted UK and non-UK companies, lawyers and accountants.
- VAT advice of the highest quality offering a real alternative to the big firms.
- A collaborative approach to developing commercial VAT strategies – from planning to implementation.
- Help in all areas of indirect and direct tax via a network of Associates.
- Reassurance that specialist VAT requirements are handled expertly and cost-effectively.
AVS VAT acts as UK VAT Agent for non-UK organisations that are obliged to have a UK VAT registration.
A UK VAT registration may be required with the following matters:
- Owning property in the UK.
- Supplying & installing contracts such as triangulation and construction.
- Owning goods in the UK.
- Holding consignment stock.
- Distance selling to UK customers.
- Some supplies of services.
A UK VAT Agent needs to:
- Ensure all UK VAT obligations are met.
- Deal with VAT Returns, Intrastat & EC Sales Listings.
- Arrange on-line submission arrangements.
- Liaise with HMRC handling all queries, correspondence & inspections.
AVS VAT is a registered partnership CCS supplier under the new framework RM3820.
The framework will be the recommended solution for all spend recovery and related services required by all UK public and third sector bodies, including central government, local authorities, health, police, fire and rescue, education, charities, housing associations and devolved administrations.
Working in partnership with the lead supplier Meridian, AVS VAT can supply services on LOT 6: VAT.

She’s a Chartered Tax Advisor and knows what clients really want – peace of mind and legal, low risk answers.

Melanie started her VAT career with HM Customs & Excise. She then managed the North East VAT practice for a Big Four firm prior to starting AVS VAT in 1994. She has over 30 years of VAT experience – and still loves her job!
